The city that never sleeps
New York City evolved from the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam to a melting pot of immigrants, specially those coming from Europe. The accumulation of wealth and the high rises of the skyline also brought a need for sophistication and social status.
Together with the modern art and upcoming artists imported to this city there was a rise on food culture and the appearance of Continental cuisine.
It was also a place for popular dishes that could feed the masses coming in, African Americans escaping the south, Jews, Greeks, Chinese, Italians, Irish and Germans, people from all over the world descended on the 5 boroughs of NYC.
Many dishes became world famous by being imported and then adapted here, on the jewish delis, the butcher houses, the New York pizza style, NY Cheesecake, NY Cannolo, Eggs Benedict etc.
