Old-World heritage
In culinary terms, the Mid Atlantic region lies in the middle of the east coast and includes Pennsylvania, the north-central Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, the southern and central New York State and the capital, Washington D.C.. The region has nice moderate climate and good land to grow crops which allowed the pioneers in the region to maintain many of their eating habits.
That of course does not mean the people in the Mid Atlantic kept still and the influence from the Rhineland culture, the wine culture and affluence of the region made this cooking very refined over the years.
This Pennsylvania Dutch Chicken Corn Soup with Rivels above is a typical dish of the region and a nice comfort food for a cold day.
